REG || JULIF
GOVERNMENT HOUSE.
HONGKONG. 2nd June, 1916.
In continuation of my confidential despatch of the
31st May, I have the honour to inform you that I have permitted
Lung Kan-kwong, elder brother of the Military Governor of Kwangtung,' to take up his residence in this Colony on condition that he does not engage in intrigue in Chinese politics. He has given such an undertaking. I should nevertheless prefer his room to his company,
and I am endeavouring to induce General Lung Chai-kwong to arrange
for his return to Canton.
It is Lung Kan-kwong who led an army of his brother's troops to Kwangsi to oppose the rebels in Yunnan, He was, however, ;
made a prisoner on the declaration of the independence of Kwangsi and has only recently been liberated after the declaration of the independence of Kwangtung. He therefore fied hither.
2.
I have also allowed Cheung Ming-ki, till recently
Civil Governor of Kwangtung, to reside in the Colony on a guarantee
made to His Majesty's Consul-General at Canton, copy enclosed, not
to engage while here in Chinese politice. Mr. Jamieson regards Cheung as quite harmless.
I have the honour to be,
gir,
Your most obedient, humble servant,
Arnag
Governor,&c.
